The Development of Chiaroscuro (Chapter one)

  • New Combat System - Knockback, Faster Swinging, Momentum, and an 8-Directional Bow

  • Updated Healing & Item Mechanics - Added Health, Lumen, and Strength Jars.

  • Reworked Menus and UI - Custom Keyboard Controls, Brightness Slider, Scaling Support, Multiple Save Files

  • Character Dialogue - Choice-based Dialogue

  • Elemental Abilities - Double Jump, Flight, Radiant

  • World Building & Boss Design - Completely redesigned five boss fights and finished writing the majority of the game’s story.

  • Late-Game Locations - Storm Island & Future Planning

  • Level Polish - Reworked 60% of the alpha’s initial levels in favor of more enjoyable gameplay.

The Development of Fun-Size!

This project was done by Joey Mora (BlackberryKin), Caleb Waldrop, Jane Anderson, Levi Walker (Missing Texture), Alex Lawrence, and Peter Minneci.

We are a small team of individuals who are students and alumni of East Tennessee State University. This project started as a 12-week class assignment and ended as a fleshed-out game.   • New Town & Characters - Added a dozen new characters

  • Every Item Implementation - Added code for every kind of collectible.

  • Map System - Implementation of a new map system with markers that can be placed where you explore.

  • Updated Text System - Colors and wavy/shaky text.

  • Elemental Abilities - Ruby Missile, Spirit Blast, Static Orb, and a few more that can’t be obtained in the demo.

  • Targets & Elemental Gates - Targets are used to encourage exploration while elemental gates are meant to restrict it in certain locations.

  • User Experience Overhaul - Added Accessibility Settings, Custom Difficulties, and an Assist Mode

  • Cutscene Manager - Redesigned a plethora of cutscenes to work with my new cutscene manager.
